Sand Driving Safety Tips for Fraser Island

The tracks on Fraser Island are only suitable for four-wheel drive vehicles and care must be taken even with these. For your own safety and comfort, as well as for the protection of the environment, here are some tips for your driving holiday:

 

Speed Limits

When driving along the beach, the speed limit is 80 kmh; on the inland tracks it's 35 kmh. (50 mph and 20 mph respectively).

General Tips

  • Slow down when passing people on the beach

  • Travel when the tide is low

  • Take care when crossing creeks 

  • Carry water, first-aid kit

  •  

Vehicle Tips

  • Load your vehicle evenly

  • Ensure it's in sound mechanical condition

  • Carry essential spares - tyres

  • Carry tyre pressure gauge and air pump
